Classes for Fall 2011

Level A: All Things Fun & Fascinating

Course Description

Students will meet fascinating creatures, discover bizarre facts and enjoy tall tales in this high-interest, introductory course to IEW’s Teaching Writing with Structure and Style. 4th-5th graders will improve their critical thinking and study skills as they learn simple formulas that will give their writing structure. In addition, they will improve their vocabularies as they learn to “dress up” their writing.

Skill Level

This is the perfect starting point for the novice and reluctant writer, as well as the younger student who has had previous experience with IEW.
As this is a highly interactive class, students must have either basic keyboarding skills or a mom who does! In either case, moms are encouraged to join us for each session.

Class Details

Classes will be held each Thursday, at 10 a.m. beginning on Thursday, August 25th. The class fee of $200 ($200 for the 1st student, $25 per additional student in the same class) will include 15 online classes and all assignments and grading for the course. Payment in full is required upon registration.

Level B- Early American History

Course Description

Students will cover all nine units of IEW’s Teaching Writing with Structure and Style while learning more about our country’s history from the explorers to the Gold Rush. They will begin by learning to take notes, create outlines and write simple summaries, and by year’s end they will be proficient in writing in both expository and creative styles of writing. Along the way, students will improve their vocabularies and sharpen both their critical thinking and study skills. They might just even have a little fun!

Skill Level

This is the perfect class for the middle school student who has had some experience with IEW or for the high school student who has had none.

Class Details

Classes will be held each Tuesday @ 2 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, August 23rd. The class fee of $200 per semester ($200 for the 1st student, $25 per sibling in the same class) includes 15 online classes and all assignments and grading for the course. Payment in full is required upon registration.

Level C- Economics Based Writing Lessons

Course Description

By reading and writing about economics, high school students will learn about economic principles, business practices and entrepreneurialism. Students will cover all nine units of IEW’s Teaching Writing with Structure and Style as they learn about topics ranging from simple terminology, theory, stories of success and international scenarios.

Skill Level

This class is designed for high school students as well as middle school students who have a strong background in IEW.

Class Details

Classes will be held each Wednesday @ 2 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, August 24th. The class fee of $200 ($200 for the 1st student, $25 per sibling in the same class) will include 14 classes and all assignments and grading for the course. Payment in full is required upon registration.
